Margaret Crowley is a representational and figurative painter. She expresses her ideas through the luminosity of watercolor and the corporeality of oil. She is fluent in pencil, ink, acrylic, egg tempera, oil and watercolor. Originally a portrait painter, Margaret Crowley’s work has evolved to explore the space between the representational and the abstract. The theme of Margaret’s most recent work is a response to the manufactured modern beauty paradigm. She expresses her love/loath relationship with the beauty and fashion industries through the careful repainting of crumpled pages from fashion magazines. She communicates a reclamation of her own power through cathartic moments of subversive humor. Margaret’s virtuosity with paint, the large scale of her work and the resulting illusion deconstructs the damaging, distorted, unnatural and unattainable fantasy of the modern beauty industry.
